Web22. máj 2024 · Red-headed Manakins and White-crowned Manakins were collected with ten mist nets arranged in lines in the forest understory. We captured birds on 6 days of each month from November 2010 to October 2011. Mist nets were open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and were checked every 45 min. The red-capped manakin was formally described and illustrated in 1857 by the English zoologist Philip Sclater based on specimen collected by Auguste Sallé in Córdoba, Veracruz, southern Mexico. Sclater placed the species in the genus Pipra and coined the binomial name Pipra mentalis. The specific epithet mentalis is Latin meaning "pertaining to the chin".
